2011 Le Mans entriesPosted: February 9, 2011
Today, the ACO announced the 2011 entries. An incredible list of competitors: 17 LMP1 entries, 11 LMP2 entries. This year, they’ve changed the GT class with two new categories: GTE Pro and GTE Am.
GTE regulations are 95%-based on the current set of regulations for GT2. The major difference between the two categories is the driver categorization and the age of the car. LM GTE Pro is designed for the professional teams with no driver restrictions, while the LM GTE Am teams can only enter cars that are at least one year old and only one Platinum- or Gold driver can be included in the line-up of these teams. The aim of this is to create a second market for GT cars.
GTE Pro includes some exciting new entries, specifically the new Ferrari 458 and Lotus Evora! Mixed with the Corvette C6 ZR1, the BMW M3, the Porsche 997 and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Quite an exciting mix of cars. The GTE Am also includes some Porsches, Corvettes as well as Ferrari 430s and Ford GT’s.
All said and done, we’re looking at 56 entries with plenty of reserves to fill the field should a team not be able to make it.
The new Audi R18 competing against the remodeled Peugeot 908, and the new Ferrari 458 competing against the established C6R and Porsche 997, this should be an excellent race. 125 days and counting.
